Breast Augmentation
One popular breast procedure is breast augmentation surgery. Breast implants get placed in the breasts under the breast muscle using plastic surgery. You could choose to have breast lift as well as breast augmentation surgery if your doctor recommends it. If you want to improve the size, shape, or looks of your breasts, contacting a plastic surgeon remains an excellent choice.
Breast augmentation can be done either as an outpatient plastic surgery procedure or in the hospital. Be sure to have someone drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after an outpatient augmentation plastic surgery procedure. Breast implants have no link to autoimmune disease or other breast diseases and are safe for most people to use to enhance their figure.
Both silicone and saline breast implants enhance a person’s figure. Saline breast implants come filled with sterile water with salt in it. They provide good looking breasts with a uniform shape, feel, and firmness. Women over 18 may use these implants, according to the FDA.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone gel fills silicone breast implants. This gel feels more like a natural breast than does saline, according to many people. The FDA permits women over 22 to get silicone implants. Because silicone doesn’t absorb into a person’s system, you’ll need to have your implants checked by your plastic surgeon routinely. Many women have used silicone with no problems to enhance their figure.
Smooth breast implants feel quite soft. They move along with the body very well.
Textured Breast Implants
Textured breast implants intentionally develop scar tissue, which enables the breast tissue to stick to the implant. These implants remain less likely to move around or reposition in the breast.
Breast Lifts
Mastopexy, or a breast lift, eliminates extra skin on the breasts and tightens tissues to reshape the breast. Reduction in areola size might also occur during a breast lift. Breasts sag due to age, pregnancy, gravity, and weight fluctuations. If you want younger, perkier breasts, you want to think about having a breast lift. If you want both larger and perkier breasts, please consider having both an augmentation and lift at the same time. A plastic surgeon can give you breast lifts that surgically raise and reshape your breasts, helping them look younger and shapelier.
Breast Reduction
Reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction plastic surgery, occurs when excess fat and tissue are removed from the breast. Underlying breast tissue gets removed or reshaped as needed. The areola size might require reduction or relocation, too. Women want a breast reduction if they have:
- Pain in their back, shoulders, or neck
- If large breasts interfere with activities
- Breasts that are out of proportion
- Asymmetrical breasts
- Clothes don’t fit
- Bra straps remain painful due to large breasts
- Low self-esteem
Breast reduction usually only occurs after a person’s breasts have become fully developed. Dr. Padgett discusses options with her patients and helps them make the correct decisions for their body and figure. Several options exist when a person considers consulting a plastic surgeon. Dr. Padgett can help you sort through these options for the best way to reach your goals.
Breast Implant Replacement and Removal
Breast implants might need to be removed or replaced at some point using plastic surgery. Breast implants are removed for the following reasons:
- Deflated or ruptured breast implants
- Rippling or wrinkling of the implant
- The implant becomes hard
- A person develops a reaction to the implant
- The breasts look uneven
- Pain occurs, and persists after breast implants become inserted
- For other cosmetic reasons
When breast implants get removed, the skin becomes lax and loose. You’d then need to have new implants placed. An augmentation, lift, or reduction might also be done at that time by your plastic surgeon
Breast Asymmetry
Many people have one breast that looks slightly larger than the other. If your breasts are noticeably asymmetrical, however, you can have your breasts evened out surgically. Dr. Padgett, plastic surgeon, has an excellent eye for what even breasts should look like, and can make your breast symmetry dreams come true.
If your breast sizes measure two to three cup sizes different, you should look into a plastic surgeon enlarging the smaller breast. Several alternatives exist to correct breast asymmetry. Each woman’s case needs to be taken into consideration. Sometimes adding a breast implant takes care of your breast asymmetry. In many cases, however, a woman also needs to have breast droop corrected, too. Or a patient might choose to have a full breast implant on one breast, and a mini implant placed on the other. Breasts might still look slightly different after asymmetry surgery, but they’ll appear larger, firmer and much more evenly balanced. The shape of your breasts, their size, and the nipple position get corrected during asymmetry surgery.
Male Breast Reduction
Overly large male breasts are medically called gynecomastia. Gynecomastia might have caused such as:
- Heredity
- Obesity
- Hormones.
- Using certain drugs
Men with gynecomastia suffer from lowered self-esteem and emotional discomfort. These feelings keep some men from physical activities and intimacy. Gynecomastia includes symptoms such as:
- Excess fat in the breast area
- Development of too much breast glandular tissue
- An excessive amount of breast skin
- One breast or both breasts may have the condition
Males with excessive breast tissue can have breast surgery or liposuction to reduce the size of their breasts. Please contact your Oklahoma City plastic surgeon, or contact Dr. Padgett, for more information on male breast reduction surgery.
